Artist Bio

SC Warren was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a major in Social Science. His main influences of study were The Ancient Greeks; The Artist aspired to be a Professor of Ancient Greek History. However, circumstance prohibited him from attending Graduate School.

Growing up he excelled at art, but no art classes were ever taken beyond High School. However he was awarded ” Top Draftsman of the Year”, three years running at PVHS. As a schoolboy of 15 or 16 he strongly suspected that he could paint and create works of art but he had other priorities, sports and girls. SC Warren decided to defer starting to painting until he became, “an old fart”, 30 something. That way he would have something to look forward to as his “athletic prowess” started to wane.

Time passed and SC Warren found himself living in Portugal, from 1984-1989. There he met a girl, who in retrospect became his Muse. Through her influence he again, began to think about art. And, remembering the promise he made to himself as a schoolboy began to ponder the start. Having now become that “old fart,” the time was at hand.

However, with “life throwing some curve ball”, nothing happened until February 1991. With memories of his Muse and his time spent in Portugal, SC Warren finally decided to” Now “make it happen. Having moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, he walked into an art supply store, with a $100 bill, and walked out with some art “stuff”. He had no preconceived ideas as to what he was going to purchase, but walked out with oil paints, brushes and blank canvases. Why were watercolor, pastels, acrylics or etc not chosen? Oil just seemed to be the only medium of choice.

The first work was a Portuguese seascape. Next, SC Warren started a painting of his Muse. Teaching himself as he went along he felt the painting was more complicated than his current skill level would allow so he stopped and went on to “a less complicated” another portrait. This portrait was of a beautiful young woman from England. The two had a serious relationship in Portugal for three years. Both works were in progress when an opportunity presented itself, in March of 1992, for him to move to the Cayman Islands. The Caribbean Life Collection was started that year, with the creation of Caribbean Life #1. The Caribbean venue was the missing motivational ingredient.

Thus, it seems it took a Muse in Portugal to give inspiration and the Caribbean venue to provide motivation for SC Warren to discover his “ bialy wick” in life, painting oil on canvas.

Caribbean Life #1, #2 and #3 were only the second third and fourth works completed by SC Warren. Caribbean Life #4 was finally completed in c2009 and Caribbean Life #5 c2010, while caring for an aging father (this was an eight year process, with SC Warren having to live with his father for 4 years and the last 25 months the care giving was 24/7). Painting was the only solace for the Artist during this trying time. Thus the Caribbean Life Collection was finally completed over an 18 year period!

Also, during this care giving period, SC Warren was able to finish the portrait, started in the spring of 1991, of his Lady Friend, Michelle, from Yorkshire, England. The Painting bares her name “Michelle”. The Artist’s Father was able to see the completion of these works; he particularly enjoyed the painting “Michelle”; she was a favorite of his. Mr. Charles E Warren passed away 5 October 2011; who will be forever missed.
